The doctor is releasing Tony today. We are concerned that her blood pressure isn't consistent, but the doctor said that is a long-term issue. He said he could keep her in the hospital to monitor her blood pressure and try to get it regulated, but that would cost us a lot of money. Therefore, when we get her home, I'm going to go immediately to the store and purchase a blood-pressure monitor, and check her every few hours and note her blood pressure until we can see a primary care doctor with that data.
The nutritionist was in and has given me some good information on a heart-healthy diet and a low sodium diet.
We are now waiting to see the social worker to try to get some assistance on the medical bills, then the wait for her discharge.

We got the ten-dollar wal-mart cheapie for keeping tabs on Rick's, and it works well enough. Keep in mind that the cuffs are sized, however -- I need the larger cuff to get an accurate reading, though R uses the standard one. I'm not sure which Tony would take.
ReplyDeleteThat is such wonderful news! Continued prayers for all of you. Thank you for keeping us posted.

Seems scary, but the doctor's right. The OTC monitors are great, and all they'd do is monitor her. Not much they can really do about it otherwise. Her BP might actually go down a bit at home anyway.
ReplyDeleteI agree...scary but good. Love you both and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeletePlease tell her not to worry about faire stuff; I have a back up plan and however she does, she's both included and protected. Have to talk with Wayne about it, already have talked with Di about it and she's NOT being replaced by any means. But no pressure to her; it'll all work out. Last thing she needs is any more pressure!
*hugs*
I have found it more cost effective to buy a higher quality BP unit (sphygmomanometer) that records the numbers with the date and time, and can be done automatically by myself: there isn't always someone around if your traveling or such.
ReplyDeletePlus, some of the less expensive ones aren't very accurate: all my doctors have insisted on checking mine from home, because they've seen so many with issues.
I bought mine on line through Hammacher Schlemmer: I really do believe that when it comes to tools of any sort, it's worth it to pay for quality.
